CCA Wins National Award for Excellence!
The Children’s Cancer Association has been chosen as the winner of the 2004 National Family Volunteer Award by Points of Light Foundation. CCA was one of only two organizations selected among thousands nationwide to receive this prestigious award in recognition for outstanding family volunteer programs, achievement, innovation and community commitment.
CCA co-founder and executive director, Regina Ellis, accepted the award on June 7th, 2004, at the National Conference on Community Volunteering and National Service. Congratulations to our CCA volunteers for the well-deserved national recognition! Thank you for being such a valued part of all the magic here at CCA.
“I was humbled and honored to accept this esteemed award on behalf of the 800 devoted volunteers who power our organization. From our corporate volunteer teams to our individual and family volunteers, these people make our incredible work possible,” says Ellis.
To be sure, this was no small event, bringing together more than 2,000 people from around the country. President George W. Bush was tele-prompted in for the opening of the ceremony and President George H. W. Bush attended in person.
Celebrity Sean Astin, the star of such hit movies at “Rudy” and “The Lord of the Rings”, presented the award. “There comes a time in the growth of any effective nonprofit when it must make the leap to the next level. I see this award as a testament to the fact that CCA is ready to do just thatto expand the reach of our amazing volunteer program and the work we can accomplish.” CCA’s programs could never exist without the support and commitment of so many wonderful volunteers. We are so very blessedand grateful!
