Honoring the extraordinary courage of young heroes

Every day, Children’s Cancer Association celebrates the bravery of young heroes among us – the thousands of seriously ill children in our community whose unwavering sense of courage and resilience inspires everyone around them. Each year, these special children and teens are nominated by medical professionals from Legacy Emanuel Hospital, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, and community health organizations, and selected by CCA as “Community Heroes” through its annual Celebration of Courage and Wall of Courage Exhibit.

Featuring portraits of each of these local children and their amazing stories of strength, The Wall of Courage Exhibit can be seen on display in various venues around the Portland area. Visit our Hero Kids page for the stories of previous years’ Community Heroes.

Photographer Candy Newby generously supports CCA by capturing our Heroes in beautiful black and white portraits. See a slide show of Candy's 2006 Hero portraits.
